The Exhibition of the Year Award was established in 2010 by the Pulszky Society – Hungarian Museum Association with the aim of drawing attention to the beneficial effect museums offering high-quality, high-quality exhibitions have on society. The aim of the award is also to strengthen professional cooperation between museums and to reward modern, creative, and visitor-centred exhibitions. From the very beginning, permanent or temporary exhibitions of the country could participate in the competition, and in recent years, cross-border and virtual exhibitions could also compete for the prize.
This year, the Exhibition of the Year award ceremony was held on 3 November 2022, the result of which was awaited by eleven museums in the three categories: the “virtual exhibition” category, the “below HUF 4 million initial costs” category and the above “HUF 4 million initial costs” category. This year's nominees included the permanent exhibition The Path of Money, opened on 15 March 2022 at the Hungarian Money Museum and Visitor Center, which draws attention to financial awareness and the importance of financial education through creative and interactive tools. A special feature of the exhibition is that it provides experience-based learning for all ages, for example by having a symbolic gold thread guides visitors along the way, and at the end of the trip visitors can lift a real gold bar.
The Path of Money exhibition, housed in an area of approximately 2400 square meters, received recognition at the award ceremony in the category following category: “above 4 million initial costs”. The financial education, the interactive, playful exhibition and the presentation of the numismatic collection were awarded a certificate of appreciation by the professional jury.
The Money Museum, which was already seen by more than 50,000 visitors, is open all year round, can be visited free of charge and all you have to do is book an appointment on the website to see the experience centre.
