The Money Museum won the Museum of the Year award in 2025
Budapest, 24th May 2025 – The Pulszky Society - Hungarian Museum Association, has once again presented the prestigious Museum of the Year Award. This award has been presented to the most outstanding museum institutions since 1996. This year's award in the "large museums" category went to the Hungarian Money Museum and Visitors Center.
The award ceremony took place during the May Day of Museums, with six museums making it to the final. 'The Path of Money' features 53 spectacular installations, numerous games and Hungary's second largest numismatic collection. The Money Museum also took part in the competition and won!
In the “large museums” category, the Museum of the Year 2025 award was given to the Hungarian Money Museum and Visitor Center by a committee of experts. According to the jury, the award was given for the museum's technological solutions, interactive exhibitions, and unique, direct approach, as well as for its immersive and innovative presentation of financial knowledge, which not only enhances the visitor experience but also strengthens the museum's and community's commitment.
The jury also said that, as Europe's second largest money museum in terms of size, this modern, experience-based financial education center aims to introduce the functions and history of money to everyone in the widest possible context. It does this in a state-of-the-art economic experience space while also looking after and presenting the MNB's collection of coins and banknotes.
Since opening in 2022, the Money Museum has welcomed 353,000 visitors and received numerous national and international awards, including the DASA award from the European Museum Academy.
