On August 1, our temporary exhibition titled “The Legacy of the Golden Train—The Rebirth of Hungarian Currency” will open its doors. 

Marking the 80th anniversary of the modern forint, the exhibition recounts a unique chapter in Hungarian monetary history: the story of the Golden Train, the preservation of the nation’s wealth, and the moments of postwar renewal.

Through 80 carefully selected artifacts, rarely seen documents, and fascinating stories, the exhibition invites you to discover how a country’s currency is intertwined with trust, memory, and the power of a fresh start.

The temporary exhibition is free to visit and requires no registration.

Additional programs on opening day:
On August 1, we’ll also be offering family programs and fun activities.

Visitors can participate in the “Do You Know the Forint?” quiz. They can try their hand at forint-related challenges and use creative family activities to imagine what their own banknote would look like or what they’d take with them on the Golden Train. In addition, at our numismatic appraisal booth, you can find out how much your old coins or banknotes are worth.

The opening day programs are free to attend, but some activities require advance registration.
